A former textbook editor and advisor for McDougal Littell, Sandy Mattox taught secondary English for 30 years. In addition to guiding and mentoring students at both high school and middle school, Mattox served as an adjunct college instructor. Most recently, she taught for 14 years at Flower Mound High School (FMHS), which produces a significant number of National Merit Finalists yearly. For the last 10 of those 14 years, Mattox partnered with FMHS math teacher Mary Walker in teaching PSAT/SAT/ACT Prep; Mattox’s primary focus during this time was two-fold: preparing senior English students for college success and preparing test prep students for PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, and ACT exams and college readiness. Mattox is the author of Point Boosters forReading and Writing on the SAT® and PSAT/NMSQT Exams®, which has been used by school districts throughout Texas. Boost Your Score, which she coauthored with Walker, has helped students throughout Texas and in other states.

Mary Walker started her teaching career in secondary mathematics in 1975. During the last 40 years, she taught all levels of secondary math in Texas, Wyoming, and Oklahoma. Walker had the good fortune of concluding her career at Flower Mound High School as a charter member of its staff. During the 15 years she was at FMHS, Walker taught PreAP Geometry, Algebra II, and Precalculus PreAP, which gave her the opportunity to help students prepare for AP and college calculus. Along with her teaching assignment, Walker served as the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Academic Coordinator and as coach of the three UIL math events. For her final 10 years, she co-taught a PSAT/SAT/ACT Prep class with FMHS English teacher Sandy Mattox. Upon retiring, Walker left the classroom but not the teaching. Presently, she is working with individual students, preparing them to take the SAT and the ACT®. Coauthoring Boost Your Score is another way that Walker hopes she can help students throughout and beyond the state of Texas.
